The T in S.T.A.M.P.E.D.
-Water Hose Dubai
In our last post we discussed the S in S.T.A.M.P.E.D.
In this piece, we will look at the next letter in the acronym, T which is for Temperature.
Temperature of the media and the ambient conditions is of utmost importance when selecting the right hose for industrial and hydraulic uses. The temperature criteria is important to understand so that the material composition of the chosen hose ensures that the hose can work in extreme temperature conditions with to avoid risk of failure due to material degradation.
For this we need to first figure out the system requirements including the operating temperature of the fluid and the ambient temperatures that the hose assembly will have to endure and match it up with the specifications for working temperatures for the appropriate hose as specified by the manufacturer.
Low temperature conditions
Selecting the right hose for extreme cold is as important as selecting one for high temperatures. There are hoses specially built to operate in low temperature environments such as construction sites and ground support in airports in northern winter climates where the temperatures can dip below 0 degrees Celsius for days on end. The hoses are built with special compounds in the mix, to resist stiffening and cracking even when the temperatures dip to -55 degree Celsius. These hoses maintain their performance and life preventing catastrophic failures in the most extreme cold temperatures.
Hoses for High temperature applications
As is obvious, high temperatures can cause swift and premature failure in hoses that are not designed for extremely hot working environments.
Specially developed hoses can be used at very high ambient temperatures or even to transport hot gases and other media. Flame resistant and heat resistant hoses are available for operations that involve elevated temperatures. These hoses may be made of Polyurethane, neoprene, silicone, PTFE (Teflon) and Stainless Steel and other metal hoses.
We will look at A in S.T.A.M.P.E.D, in our next article.
