Why Use a Composite Hose?

composite hoses dubaiComposite hoses have become popular for a variety of applications due to the following features;

  • Resistance to Chemicals
  • Safety
  • Flexibility

Chemical Resistance-The versatility of composite hoses makes it a preferred choice of conduit, when transporting chemicals.  The inner layer of the hose can be made of a variety of plastics including, polypropylene, Teflon, nylon to suit and be compatible with almost any fluid.  This combined with the safety and flexibility aspects, makes composite hoses a winning combination.

Safety-The very nature of design of composite hoses make them fail safe.  Let us look at the two components where a composite hose can fail.

  1. The Hose-Composite hoses are made up of multiple layers of a variety of plastic fabrics, films and polyester barrier layers due to which there is no direct path for the fluid to follow. For a leak to take place, the fluid material will have to snake through several layers of the hose until it finally reaches the outer cover, where small drops of the fluid will be formed along the  length of the hose indicating failure of the hose and the need to replace it immediately.  With other conventional hoses, sudden rupture without warning carries risks of damage to equipment and injury to personnel too.  Also, most composite hoses have an outer cover made of a material that is resistant to abrasion and corrosion.
  2. End fittings on composite hoses-Composite hose fittings have spiral tail piece or shank which can be screwed into the composite hose, with a ferrule swaged on to complete a seal. Hence, the end fitting will have to be unscrewed from the hose to be blown out. This design makes the end fittings on a composite hose relatively fail safe, and greatly reduces the change of the fitting being blown off from the hose end.

Flexibility-Composite hoses are among  the most flexible of all hoses.  Again the very nature of design of a composite hose with multiple layers of a variety of plastic which are NOT glued or sealed together makes it highly flexible.  When a composite hose is bent, the layers slide upon the layer below  giving it a very small bend radius.

To summarise, Composite hoses are one of the most versatile  kind of hoses  and can be used with many different types of fluids due to its chemical compatibility with a number of  fluids.  Coupled with its highly flexible nature and relatively safer “failing” design, it is a preferred choice for a lot of applications in Hydraulic system industry.
