Quick facts about Hydraulic Hoses.
-Hydraulic Hose UAE
Hydraulic Hoses are a complex matter and a variety of factors are considered for the design, manufacture and testing of high quality hydraulic hoses. We at Inflex Hydraulics, are continuously adding to our knowledge and experience of hydraulic hoses so as to offer the right solutions for our customers unique needs and applications.
Hydraulic hoses are increasingly made using a number of materials, however, the primary material used is the most important consideration.
- Rubber hydraulic hoses or Elastomeric hoses are chosen for their excellent flexibility and for low to high pressure applications.
- Thermoplastic hoses offer amazing kink resistance and tight minimum bend radii.
- Fluoro-polymer hoses are ideal for high temperature operations with chemical media and offer excellent corrosion resistance.
- Metal hoses can be flexible or stiff and are designed for use with extreme temperature flow materials at high pressures.
All modern hydraulic hoses are made of at least three parts, a protective outer cover layer, a reinforcement layer in the centre, and an inner tube that carries the media.
- The outer layer is made of a material suited fro the type of environment it is going to be used for and is often made to resist abrasion, weather and oil resistant.
- The reinforcement layer consists of one or more layers of fabric, braided wire or spiral wound wire. The wire braid has a criss cross pattern around the perimeter of the hydraulic hose for flexibility. Spiral wires are wrapped around the hose and hence remain parallel.
- The inner tube is designed for compatibility with the type of media it will transport and must also be flexible enough.
Hose or Metal Tube
Hoses are chosen for high vibration applications or when attached to moving components of equipment. Hoses are preferred as they are flexible, relatively easy and quick to fabricate, available in long lengths, easier to install in tight spaces, resistant to corrosion and provide better heat insulation.
Metal Tubes are preferred when routed close to a heat source, for greater temperature operation range and is more economical than hydraulic hoses in the long run. Most hydraulic systems will have a combination of tubing and hoses, depending on which works better for that particular component of the system.
Quick Facts
- There are a lot of variables that decide the life of a hose that makes it almost impossible to predict the service life of a hose assembly. However, this article about using the STAMPED process is a good guideline for selection of a particular hose that will ensure longer working life of the hose.
- Hydraulic hose sizes are based on the inside diameter of the hose and is often referred to as the dash size, as a sixteenth of an inch. So a dash 4 size hose is one with ID ¼”, a dash 10 size is one with id 5/8”.
- Spiral hoses last longer than braided hoses and typically withstand higher pressures than braided hoses.
- Debris and dirt in a hydraulic system can cause huge damage quickly to hydraulic hoses and hence a regular oil and filter change helps to prolong the life of the hoses.
- A hydraulic hose assembly is made up of the hose and the end fittings and connections, each component having its own maximum working pressure rating. The maximum working pressure of a hydraulic hose assembly is determined by the lowest maximum working pressure between the hose and the end fittings.
