Using clean hydraulic hose assemblies for replacements.
A hose that may look clean on the outside may have contaminants and dirt inside. The importance of avoiding contamination in a hydraulic system cannot be over emphasized. Dirt, particles, debris and in some cases even water that can enter a system through a hydraulic hose can cause huge problems, severely damaging an equipment or machine or even causing a system failure.
The need to ensure that all new hoses are free of contaminants prior to installation is absolutely essential to prevent the problems discussed above.

There are three common methods employed to clean and remove contaminants from the inner tube of a hydraulic hose as listed here :-
Pressurised air– High pressure air can be used to blow through a hydraulic hose assembly to make it clean and dry. However, this may be employed for short and small hoses. This may not be employed for longer hoses as the contaminants may get caught within the hose assembly.
Fluid Flushing-Here a fluid that is clean and compatible with the hose assembly is used. You can pump an assembly with this fluid at a high pressure to flush out the contaminants. The fluid itself should be completely clean and contaminant free. Prior to installing the hose, the inside of the hose needs to be dried out completely.
Foam projectiles– One of the most effective measures is the use of a foam projectile which is shot through a hose assembly using dry compressed air or sometimes an inert clean gas. Special bench-top or hand-held launchers are used to ensure that the foam projectile travels through the entire length of the hose and does not get stuck inside the hose.
Typically the projectile is 20-30-% bigger in size than the inner tube diameter so that the flexible foam compresses against the inner wall of the hose assembly and grabs debris and dust in a sweeping motion as it passes through the inside of the hose. Generally, the foam projectiles are shot in two stages. First from one end and then from the other end in the second stage. Ends are capped immediately after cleaning to prevent further contamination prior to installation.
