Sharjah

Sharjah is a constituent emirate of the federation known as the United Arab Emirates, and has common boundaries with all the other six emirates that form the federation, and with Oman too.  This prosperous oasis is the third largest emirate in the federation and enjoys the rarity of having land on the gulf of oman and the Persian gulf.

Sharjah is a classy mix of the old and the modern.  With it’s many attractions that boasts of wonderful Islamic architecture and reveals tales of the glorious past while pointing to a vibrant future.  The emirate of Sharjah’s hard work and diligent efforts is well appreciated and it’s considerable long term investments in sculpting a strong cultural values and heritage.  It is no wonder that UNESCO named Sharjah as the ‘Arab Capital of Culture’ in 1998.

The city of Sharjah while being quite modern is known as the cultural capital of the nation.  It’s Heritage Area developed on the creek side is famous for its restored homes and museums dedicated to Emirati culture and customs.  The Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization attracts people from far and wide.  Sharjah also has  a deep water port with modern container terminals that has  cold-storage facilities and of course a fairly busy  international airport.  While the oil and natural gas reserves of Sharjah is relatively modest, the importance of industry in Sharjah is an integral part of its economy.

Sharjah is rich in natural beauty.  Besides being one of the leading cultural centers of the world what with its museums and historical sites, outdoor activities like desert camping and camel racing will let you experience a unique rare and real piece of Sharjah.

Sharjah is also considered as the suburb of Dubai as many people who work in Dubai live in Sharjah due to its more conservative rentals.  The city is also named as a healthy city.  Alcohol is forbidden in Sharjah as per its conservative Islamic values, hence restaurants and hotels do not serve alcohol.  Pubs, night-clubs and state bars are non-existent and for this very reason Sharjah holiday packages are very popular with health conscious tourists.
